I first saw Melinda Hill in the HILARIOUS web-series, “Romantic Encounters.”

When I met her at the Roosevelt, I didn’t realize she was the same person from the web-series.  All I noticed was that she was a beautiful blonde in a stylish orange coat.  As I was composing my shot, staring at her through my viewfinder, I felt a familiarity to her…

Me:  Say, you look very familiar to me…

Melinda:  Oh, really?  Where do you think you’ve seen me?

Me:  You know, I could be mistaken, but I saw some funny dating web-series called “Romantic… something.”

Melinda: “Romantic Encounters.”  That’s my show.

Me:  Ah!  So that is you!

When I first saw her web-series, I remember thinking to myself, “If I ever met her, I would definitely ask for her number.”

She gave me her business card.  That counts, right?

Like the photo?  No?  You think I can do better?  Maybe I did, but we’ll never know…

You see… I take 20 photos of people on average, hoping I get the best shot.  I took about 15 shots of Sean while we were eating at Duppars.

Sean: Can I see the photos you just took?

Me: Okay.

I handed him my camera, he scrolled through the photos as I continued to eat my hash browns.  Then he handed me back my camera.

Sean: Thanks dude.

The next day, I scrolled through my photos of Sean.  There were only four.  What the hell happened?  He didn’t erase them, did he?

I checked the numbers.  Yup.  There were gaps.  They’re gone.

Savvy Bastard has struck again.  Next time, I’ll strike him in the face.

I met Kris as she was being a hostess at the Amalfi restaurant, just below Room 5 Lounge.  As the nosy human being that I am, I wouldn’t leave her alone as she did her job.  What can I say?  I was drawn by her big, beautiful, blue eyes.  I knew there was something to her.  She then revealed that she writes and performs her own original songs… with a twin!  Boy, what I would give to be in a room with two of these ladies.

Lucky for me, they had a gig in Room 5 coming up soon and she was kind enough to invite me.   I brought my friend, Devin, with me and watched the two of them perform.

My God… these two girls definitely seize the room when they play.  Too many amateurs play loudly to demand audience attention, but never earn it.  Never before have I seen a room go quiet for such a soft spoken band, that lulls us into an emotional trance as we listen to songs that not only scope lands of personal emotion, but stories of their family history as well!

And in between songs, Kris and Alix light up the room with their soft and dry humor to let us come up for air before we dive deep into another realm of acoustic deliciousness.

Devin and I agreed… the dynamic duo deserve a platform where the world can hear them.

This lovely lady above almost saw my bad-side when we encountered a difficult stranger who “assisted” us.

Normally when I ask a stranger to hold my cellphone to light the person I am photographing, they do a great job.  They stay still, and stay quiet.

Instead, this happened…

A random woman walked out of a store and I thought she could help us for 30 seconds…

Me:  Excuse me, would you mind holding my cellphone light over this lovely lady?

Loud Mouth Woman:  Sure!

As I was snapping photos.  She kept moving the light… and her mouth.

Loud Mouth Woman:  Chin up!  Stick out your hip!  Turn to your left!  Turn right!  You don’t want to look bad!

You know that saying… “Opinions are like assholes… everyone’s got one” ?  Well, I lost track of her assholes.

Everything this woman said distracted the girl and made her pose awkwardly, making my photos terrible.  I turned my head slowly towards this woman, trying not to give her the stink-eye.  How could I politely tell her to SHUT HER TRAP?  This girl I was taking a photo of is not a professional model.  She’s already hard enough to photograph.

I asked her…

Me:  Excuse me, Miss.  Are you a photographer?

Loud Mouth Woman:  No, I’m an actress.

That’s like telling me, “No, I’m not a plastic surgeon… but I have breast implants!”

I responded to her…

Me:  WOW.  I have so many amazing shots!  Thank you so much for your help!  I couldn’t have done it without you.

Loud Mouth Woman:  Of course!  I knew my directions would help.

I waited for her to walk away, then asked the next person who walked by to hold the light.

I met these two dynamic individuals at Canters on La Brea.  As we were exiting, I asked to photograph them in the street.

Them:  Sure, we’ll risk our lives for you.

And we lived to tell the tale.  Well, at least you know I did.
